Vance McEachern, BSc, MSc Food Science, Senior Advisor, Food Safety with The Acheson Group (TAG), is a food safety expert with over 32 years of experience working in Canadian government’s food safety system with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
During his career with DFO and CFIA, Vance played a pivotal role in the introduction and application of HACCP in Canada’s food inspection system. In the early 1990s, he led the development and implementation of DFO’s Quality Management Program, one of the first mandatory government HACCP systems.
With the CFIA Vance managed the development of the Integrated Inspection System, the precursor to Canada’s Safe Food for Canadians Act (SFCA). Over his time with CFIA, Vance held several positions including the Executive Director of the Inspection Modernization Office, and the Executive Director of Operations.
Vance retired from the CFIA in July 2013 and has worked as a contract auditor for NSF and provided private food safety consultation services to the food industry in Canada and the US focusing on the development and implementation of HACCP based food safety systems (BRC, SQF, FSMA, CFIA compliant). Vance is a certified BRC lead auditor and a FSMA Preventive Controls lead instructor.
