Travel Considerations.

With much of the U.S. in the process of reopening, TAG has received many questions about establishing criteria for business and personal travel. This week, we will be addressing considerations for travel, such as: Should non-essential travel be authorized? Where and how should travel should be conducted? What should be considered prior to, during, and after travel? In today’s article, we focus on the traveler’s personal health and destination.

 

Because outbreak conditions will change on an ongoing basis, a travel risk-assessment should be conducted for each employee and each trip – for both business and personal travel. Some questions to ask about the risk-assessment might include:

  • What is the employee’s health status? If the employee is symptomatic or a close contact with a positive or suspected COVID-19 case, they should not travel at all. Additionally, anyone with underlying health conditions should be advised to not travel as this could put them at higher risk.

  • If the intended travel is within the U.S.: Check current local, state, or provincial requirements of both departure and arrival locations

    • If the area is considered high-risk, travel should be postponed, both for the employee’s health and because some jurisdictions require people returning from high-risk areas to self-quarantine.
