Recommendations for Industry

Mitigating COVID Spread at Halloween

Halloween is tomorrow – with trick or treating still on in some areas and many young (and older) adults planning on Halloween gatherings. Because community spread of COVID-19 is a significant challenge for businesses, and employees can carry the virus into the workplace, TAG is recommending that all businesses discuss off-work activities with employees, to help them manage spread when they’re not at work.

Following are some CDC recommendations applicable to both trick or treating and other gatherings:

  • Face masks (nose and mouth covering/not other Halloween masks) should be worn. These can be made a part of the costume, but should not be worn under a costume mask as it can make breathing difficult.

  • Six-foot social distancing needs to be maintained – both indoors and outdoors.

  • If you are giving treats, avoid direct contact, give treats outdoors, wash hands before handling treats – and wear a mask!

  • If you are trolling for treats, bring hand sanitizer and us it after touch objects or other people, then wash hands when arriving back home.

CDC also has provided other holiday information which can be shared with your employees:
